Crediton Community Allotment Open Day

We welcome all ages to join us for outdoor fun at the allotment. Try an activity or simply come and find out what we are doing and how you can take part. We will maintain social distancing and abide by current guidelines at all times.

Gardening for Health!

This is a drop-in activity throughout the day.

Gardening tones us up! 30 minutes of gardening is comparable to playing badminton, volleyball or practising yoga. This will be a half an hour session or more doing any of the following activities during our open day. Expect to use up:

Digging: 250 calories

Weeding: 140 calories

Raking: 100 calories

Planting bulbs for spring: 120 calories

10.30am Gardening session for over 50's

Five minutes of exercise outdoors in a green space is enough to significantly lift our mood. Being in the sun gives us natural Vitamin D. Make new friends whilst getting active and keeping healthy.

An activity to take part in digging, weeding and planting a raised bed. This activity helps to make our allotment thriving and keep active and healthy at the same time! 1 hour session

11.00 Talk on Herbs

Children's Activity: Allotment trail

This is a drop-in activity throughout the day. Children will be given a map of different things to find on the allotment. When they have discovered everything they will be given a pot and cress or sunflower seeds to plant and take home.

11.30am Make a Mini Pond

Children are guided to dig a hole and make a mini pond with stones and plants to attract frogs and insects. They will then help to make a sign to go next to the pond.

13.00 Plant a Tree for Charity

We are planting fruit trees on the allotment. Participants can choose which fruit they would like to plant and dedicate it to someone they care about. Afterwards, they come and visit the allotment to watch their tree grow and produce fruit. They will dig the hole for the tree and plant it with guidance then surround it with bark chippings. They tie a label to the tree to dedicate it. £15 per tree to go to charity. You must book in advance.

After their activity participants can join us for tea, cake and a chat about our Community Allotment and volunteer opportunities.

What to Bring / Equipment

Dress for the allotment and bring your own gardening gloves and water.

Some activities require booking due to limited numbers. Please contact Katheryn at If you are participating in gardening activities please bring your own gardening gloves.
