About Casual Instructors

Join our casual instructor team

We are seeking a small team of self-employed, qualified, passionate instructors that can support the delivery of our Ever Active programme which covers Reading and West Berkshire. This programme targets older adults and adults with a disability and aims to build social connections and reduce isolation through community based physical activity sessions.

Given the nature of our target audience we are particularly interested in individuals that have a qualification in chair-based exercise but welcome applications from those with other qualifications such as ETM, Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi (or similar). Instructors must have their own Public Liability insurance and be willing to do a small amount of admin as part of the role.

If you would like to work in partnership with our charity and want to make a difference to your local community please get in touch.

Salary

£15-£30 per hour (dependant on qualifications and experience)

Hours

The majority of our sessions take place during the day (generally between 10.00 and 15.00) and are piloted over a course of 6-8 weeks with one session a week lasting approx. 1 hour. Given current circumstances sessions will likely be a mix of community-based and virtual. If attendance numbers are good we look to extend delivery and seek ways to make the session sustainable. Depending on your qualifications, combined with demand from local communities, there may be more than one session a week requiring an instructor but we are able to be flexible and want to form a partnership with you that works for you.

Working for GBA

We expect successful applicants to buy into our values and strive to encourage individuals to be more active through positive conversations and inspiring delivery ultimately aiming for long term changes in behaviour and improved health outcomes for participants. It is possible that a DBS check will be required, GBA can cover the cost of this.

Successful applicants will need to have their own transport to get to/from sessions.

In return we offer

  • Access to CPD courses/workshops with a discount
  • Access to some GBA led training (including Motivational Interviewing) for free
  • Flexible working to fit around your lifestyle and commitments
  • Introductions to partner organisations where appropriate
  • You remain self-employed and protect your tax benefits

COVID-19

All sessions will be delivered in accordance with government restrictions and will also be in line with individual venue guidance. We welcome applications from individuals that are willing to deliver community-based and/or virtual sessions. We can use budget allocated to this programme to purchase PPE. All participants are required to book onto sessions and are expected to agree to abide to a code of conduct which states that they must not attend if they are experiencing any symptoms (or have been told to isolate).
