Let's Move: Devon's Community Movement Challenge
A LITTLE CHANGE MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE
Welcome to Let's Move. You're nearly there! To confirm your place on the challenge, simply scroll to the bottom of this page and 'sign up' to the Sportsuite platform.
This is your opportunity to join your community – your town, village, borough, parish, city, or ward – to be active every day, support others in the community, and win great prizes!
Let's Move is a place-based digital challenge and campaign, celebrating Devon's wonderful communities and all that it means to be active in our beautiful county.
The core message is that "a little change makes a big difference", and that amidst the challenges of lockdown, recession and climate change, there is one thing that can help us all: to move more.
The positive impacts of movement on physical and mental health, community wellbeing, and on our shared spaces and the environment, are all well proven. Let's Move is a celebration of this and a realisation that we can all be part of a positive transition to a better future.
Whether getting out on your bike or doing sitting exercises at home, walking into town or dancing round the kitchen, Let's Move is about movement in all its forms, and it is a challenge for everyone in Devon. We invite and encourage people from all backgrounds and abilities to take part.
The last few months have been difficult for many people in Devon, and it has never been clearer just how important our communities are. Join your community now and "let's move". Our bodies, communities and places depend on it.
Disclaimer: As the nation eases out of the lockdown, safety remains paramount. It is crucial that when moving, particularly outside of the home, that you maintain social distancing and take other precautions in line with the current government guidance. To learn more, see here.
How it Works
Once you're signed into the Sportsuite platform, you can search for your place-based team based on the name of your town, village, borough, parish, city, or ward.
If you can't find your team, you may be the first person from your community to join the challenge. In this case, you can create your community team, before inviting others to join.
Once you have a team, you can either connect your smartphone or wearable device, or simply login to enter the number of "moving minutes" you're doing each day. If you need a hand to do this, check out the tracker's FAQ section.
All "moving minutes" will contribute to your team's overall effort, with teams moving up and down the overall leader board as a result.
We will also create weekly "mini leagues" for each area of Devon. The results of these leagues will be posted every Monday on the relevant Active Devon Facebook page.
With hundreds of individual and community prizes to be won, and with a chance to connect in new ways with people in your community and beyond, what are you waiting for: let's move.
There are four prize categories with hundreds of opportunities to win prizes:
1. Weekly Local League Prize Draw in Each of Devon's 8 Regions
Each week participants from the top three teams in each of Devon's regions will enter a draw to win one of three prizes. First prize is a Wearable Fitness Tracker worth £30, second prize is a custom-made "Let's Move" t-shirt worth £20, and third prize is a £10 Go Outdoors e-voucher. With 30 of these being given away every week it pays to get moving and be in with a shot.
Please note, to increase the chances of more people winning prizes, a team must have at least 5 members. Devon's eight regions are as follows: Exeter, East Devon, North Devon & Torridge, Mid Devon, Plymouth, South Hams & West Devon, Teignbridge, Torbay.
2. Weekly "Your Story" Social Media Prizes
Each week there will be a "share your story" competition on social media. Based on relevant themes, such as where you love to be active locally, how movement helps improve your wellbeing, and much more, we are offering three extra prizes each week. A winner and two runners-up will receive brilliant "active at home" kits worth £150 and £75 respectively.
This competition will be held on Facebook, join your regional group to be in for a chance to win: Exeter, East Devon, North Devon & Torridge, Mid Devon, Plymouth, South Hams & West Devon, Teignbridge, Torbay, West Devon.
3. Overall Seven-Week Regional Champions
At the end of the seven-week challenge, we will make a £500 donation to community organisations in each of Devon's ten regions. The winning community team in each area will be selected by a combination of factors including the overall number of participants, the overall number of "moving minutes", the average number of "moving minutes", and the level of social media engagement.
One community will be chosen from each area, with the community organisation selected in consultation with local authorities and other stakeholders. Decisions are final and beyond dispute. Devon's eight regions are as follows: Exeter, East Devon, North Devon & Torridge, Mid Devon, Plymouth, South Hams & West Devon, Teignbridge, Torbay.
4. Let's Move Survey, Movement Matters Newsletter & Other Prize Draws
By completing the sign up and follow up surveys, you will also be entered into a draw to win a brand-new Apple iPad worth £300. The follow up survey will be emailed to you at the end of the challenge if you have completed the sign up survey.
For those who complete the sign up survey, there are further opportunities to win one of our mystery prizes. These will be available via our "Hero Mums" and "Over 55's" categories.
In addition, if you sign up for the Movement Matters Bulletin here, you will be entered into another draw for an "active at home" kit worth £150. All that is required is your email address and it take about 15 seconds to enter!
